Hello, friends and welcome to my latest video. This week, I am introducing a new series called "5 Bands I Have Tried to Like...But I Just Can't." This limited series will be tackling the strange phenomenon of discussing bands that I wish I liked (and have tried many times to like, even), but I just don't. First in the series is the Grateful Dead.
I have been living "Dead adjacent" since I was in high school back in the 80s. I have always been intrigued by the imagery of the band and have admired their independent spirit. In college, most of my friends loved the Dead and saw them in concert many times. But, I was always the odd man out. No matter how much I tried to like the music, I just didn't.
Since college, I have tried a few more times to see if I could (finally) connect with the music of Grateful Dead. {cricket noises} Still nothing.
So that's what this series is about: bands you keep trying to like, yet somehow, you just don't. I'm limiting this to five. Here is number one.
